RESIDENTIAL HOUSING

Our residential housing program is a person-centred program offering support from staff around the clock.  You and up to four other residents and their children live together in a family-style model where you will gain experience and education in maintaining stable housing, life skills, and parenting.  Residents enter the residential program when they are either pregnant or after their children have been born and are under the age of 2.

FAQ

WHO LIVES AT FRESH START?

Residents that live at Fresh Start are looking for supports around pregnancy, parenting, and life skills. There is no age restriction on the age of the adults that live at Fresh Start; however, children in the residential program must be under the age of 2. We do not discriminate admission into programs based on race, religion, creed, beliefs, marital status, mental health status, financial status, drug use or misuse. Fresh Start is not a crisis centre and as such do not offer the services necessary to support those in a mental health crisis or an addictions crisis but can provide supports once the crisis has been resolved and stabilized through rehabilitation.

HOW LONG CAN I STAY?

Residents can stay in the residential program for up to one year. Resident participation is required while staying at Fresh Start. The average length of stay is approximately 6 months.

HOW IS MY STAY FUNDED?

Government funding is available through Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program.

HOW MUCH AM I ALLOWED TO BRING WITH ME?

Due to limited space, we request that residents bring only two large suitcases of personal items. The rooms in the residential program are furnished and bedding and towels are provided.
