Program Manager

Fresh Start Support Services is hiring a full time Program Manager!

Fresh Start Support Services is a Christian charity located in St Thomas, Ontario that supports families in a safe housing community by providing early parenting interventions and skill development while putting Christ’s love into action.  Supporting the attachment of the infant-mother dyad and providing early parenting skills set up families for success and the healthy development of the infant.  The Program Manager is responsible for the oversight of staff, the program, and the care of families.

Overview of Duties

  • Foster a positive work culture among staff, allowing for collaboration and teamwork;

  • Communicate with staff, families, and other community organizations;

  • Provide coaching opportunities and offer regular constructive feedback to staff;

  • Oversee the intake of families into Fresh Start’s housing and other programming;

  • Support staff in creating clear and thorough documentation, including daily case notes, incident reports, consents, and family care plans.

  • Network with community agencies;

  • Oversee legislative and organizational policies and procedures to ensure safety for families, staff and volunteers;

  • Monitor the fidelity of programs and make the necessary adjustments to realign;

  • Assist Executive Director with the development and implementation of programs, policies and procedures;

  • Demonstrate and effectively communicate the mission of the organization and put Christ’s love into action;

  • Provide spiritual leadership, discipleship, encouragement, and direction to staff, volunteers, and families where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in a relevant field of work;

  • Over 5 years of experience working in a social services role;

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership role;

  • Significant experience and/or trainings in infant and child care, child development, attachment, trauma and conflict resolution;

  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications;

  • Demonstrate competencies in communication, delegation, motivating others, organizing and task management, patience, the ability to develop effective teams, and a strong self-development;

  • Exceptional leadership and decision-making skills; and

  • Ability to make decisions in demanding and stressful situations.

Working Conditions

The Program Manager position is full time with additional duties of being on call in the event of an emergency.  While there is flexibility in scheduling, the Program Manager will work hours that benefit the organization and allows for maximal interactions with staff and families.  Work will be based out of the Fresh Start Support Services facility with some time spent working in the community. 

 

This position may be challenging, as working in a stressful and busy environment with regular interruptions may require the ability to change priorities quickly and tolerate stress. The coaching and management of staff can also be challenging.  Additionally, some families may present challenging and provoking behaviour or may share stories of life experiences that may be triggering or difficult to support.  Travel is required, as is use of a reliable, personal vehicle.  There is a possibility for this position to work some hours remotely.   The on-call responsibilities are shared between the ED and Program Manager.
